Programs of the TJPDC Corporation

Our Mission

To promote regional cooperation and collaboration between government, private sector and community organizations to improve the quality of life for citizens serving Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson Counties. The Corporation assists community efforts in these areas:

  • The Arts
  • Universal Design


The TJPDC Corporation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation governed by a Board of Directors of at least seven and no more than thirteen members. Six directors are selected from the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) to represent each locality member, with at least four being current Commissioners. Up to seven at-large directors are elected by the TJPDC Corporation Board.

Program Support

TJPDC Corporation strives to support local initiatives, some of which may have stakeholders committed to providing a community service in keeping with our mission. Some stakeholders prefer to operate as a program of the TJPDC Corporation and other rely on us a base from which to build an independent 501(c)(3). Regardless of the chosen path, programs have access to staff of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission (TJPDC) to achieve our common goals. Functions that may be handled by TJPDC, and the staff positions involved, may include:

  • Overall program management and development
  • Administrative Support
  • Development of PR materials, web site
  • Computer equipment and software assistance
  • Financial management
  • Data tabulation and analysis
  • Grant Writing and Administration
We also provide basic business resources such as office space, equipment, telephones, printers, copiers, and meeting space at no or reduced cost.
